Getting back to writing!

Soooo, I haven't written really in ages. I keep trying, and just give up. But not too long ago, I realized that having spent the past year on running DnD games, I've really been writing a lot.

While it's fun, and sometimes gets me okay tips, I want to try and put some of those ideas down on paper, real paper, or even e-paper, haha.

I'm also going to try and get back into entering writing contests, because why not?

All of my attempts will be going up on Wattpad for the time being. Who knows where that will go, if anywhere.

So this took down #29 on my 77/777 list! Getting there, one day at a time.

Didn't forget about this~ Yet~

Slowly updating the 77 items in 777 days list. I've done so many of these lists, but never finished any. It's funny to think, how things on past lists have been done. We own a house. We've been through two new cars (we just traded the one in for an SUV, pretty sure that car was cursed or haunted. It got crashed into four or five times, had the windshield break twice, the parking brake as well... It wasn't old or anything, just a mess...) But there's some things we haven't accomplished yet.

Like opening our store. Owning chickens. Going to another province. (I've been to Quebec some years ago, but my poor husband has scarcely been out of Southern Ontario!) Winning any sort of contest. Silly things, sure, but they matter to me.

Also, knowing the end of the 777 days is my 40th birthday, is making me want to make sure I get lots of cool stuff done by then.

Not to say my life is boring now. With a husband, a kiddo, a dog, two cats, and plans to travel (once covid is done), and plans to open the store (in spring!), and so much else, there's no time for boring, it would just be nice to check off a few things!

Checklist: 77 items in 777 days.

I promised myself I'd try to do this. 77 things, in 777 days. From today, til then, is my... 40th birthday, good lord, how?

One more time?

Ya know, I keep bringing this blog back, and then forgetting about it, and then coming back and...

I'm not going to make any promises this go around, but hey, an update never hurt anyone.

Right now I'm managing a Discord server for Dungeons and Dragons, which sounds TOTALLY nerdy, and definitely IS nerdy, and I'm loving it. I've done some DMing, played in a few games, and well, this is my life now. A life of dice. Perfect.

Not to mention, I'm writing my own one-shots! Poor life means I make up my own adventures for folks, ha!

Other than for DnD, my writing has slowed to a crawl, but my IDEAS for writing are wild as ever. Came up with a plague/vampire story I want to do for NaNoWriMo this year. It's got a beginning, middle AND end. Which is bonkers, because I've never cared for the vampire genre in my life. But even my vampire LOATHING husband thinks it's awesome. So we'll see where that goes.

Reading is... meh. Though I did just finish The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. Satisfying as all heck. Threw me off a bit since I've been watching The Handmaid's Tale like it's life giving, but whatever. I'll take it. 😃

Can't wait for the next adventures that I wander into.😜

Cute as heck avatar made here!

The Grace Year - Kim Liggett

The Grace YearThe Grace Year by Kim Liggett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have been interested in reading this since I started seeing mention of it on Twitter, in the writer-verse. As soon as I found out NetGalley had it up for grabs, I was so there. And I don't regret being hyper about it at all.

**NO SPOILERS**

The story follows Tierney, a tomboy in a world of girls who are basically expected to be primed to be walking incubators, more or less. Very much heeds back to Handmaid's Tale, eh?

All girls in her world need to be sent away for a year, to rid themselves of a magic that brings men to their knees, can make them control the men. Which is where our story begins, essentially.

The book follows the girls in her year who are sent away, and the things they discover about themselves, each other, and the world around them. Horrifying though it may be.

There's loads of surprises, twists and turns, all of which I loved, and all of which actually worked well for the story. The ending wasn't what I was expecting either, but I really enjoyed it, instead of being disappointed for not getting what I wanted!

Definitely something to look forward to!
